Passport Hell, Redux

After the joy (looong, friends-locked story) that we went through in trying to get The Minion’s passport last year, you can imagine my opinion of the following “solution” by the US Government:

A Washington Times investigation has discovered that the US has outsourced the manufacturing of American passports to overseas companies — including a Thai company that has had problems with Chinese espionage infiltration.

Not only that, but the GPO (government printing office) is charging the State Department more money for manufacturing the passports than it costs to make them, which apparently has allowed them to ring up more than $100 million in profits (although how one office can make a profit from another, when it’s all tax dollars anyway is beyond me).

Jesus Christ, that’s POWERFUL stupid.

Scary Stuff

I don’t want this journal to seem like the “Daily Hillary Bash” (Which might lead me to be criticized for being “political” and “negative”…), but I just read some stuff which is flat-out creepy:

Hillary has had the nerve this week to go after Obama for his association with Rev. Wright — even answering questions about it from Richard Mellon Scaife — a right-winger who was part of the effort to get rid of the Clintons in the 90s.

But this isn’t about her blatant attempt to keep the supposed ‘controversy’ going — it’s about the Pandora’s Box she’s opened, and the extremely uncomfortable things it reveals about her own religious affiliations.

Apparently, she’s a member of a shadowy group that calls itself The Family (or sometimes The Fellowship).

Apparently, this group meets in sex-segregated cells to discuss how God has chosen them to fulfill their roles in public life, and they believe that, in mass societies, it’s only the “elites” who matter, the political leaders who can build God’s “dominion” on earth.

It’s some scary stuff — rather than go into it here, I’ll just provide links to my sources. You can decide for yourself:

Mother Jones had an article on it in September.

Barbara Ehrenreich’s article from The Nation, which appeared both on CBS.com and the Huffington Post on the 21st of this month.

Lisa Gans editorial on today’s Huffington Post, asking why journalists haven’t asked Hillary about her association with this group.

If Obama is somehow to blame for cherry-picked statements, taken out of context from much larger sermons by his largely well-respected former pastor, why isn’t Hillary being asked about her membership in this cult?

All The President’s Men II: Electric Boogaloo

Famed Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein guest-posting an article on Anderson Cooper’s blog at CNN.com:

“Hillary Clinton has many admirable qualities, but candor and openness and transparency and a commitment to well-established fact have not been notable among them.”

Given the fact that the media have now actually started covering her outright lies about her record and the viciousness of her campaign tactics… how long before she plays the victim card again? You can see it coming: they must all hate her because she’s a woman, right?
