Just a quick update: As I said in the comments of the entry below, one of the niftiest things about my new Mac is GarageBand, Apple’s new music creation software. After noodling around with it for a couple of hours this evening, learning to record directly from a MIDI keyboard, and mix the couple of thousand loops that they provide with the program, I’ve come up with the following, which I’m going to put up for public consumption for a brief time (it’ll come down eventually for reasons of bandwidth). Putting this puppy together took about 25 minutes, and, although I haven’t yet figured out how to do the fadeout that I want yet, I’m pretty pleased with the results:

Edit, Sat. Morning: I figured out how to do the fade, and, perfectionist that I am, I’ve uploaded the corrected version.

My Precioussssss….

I am now the proud owner of a computer that was made in this century. Using a chunk of a consulting fee that we had earmarked just for this purpose, I went out yesterday and purchased a brand-spankin’-new 17-inch iMac:

Edit: replaced the giganto-huge image with a much more polite version, for those who don’t like having to scroll…. :)

For the tech geeks in the audience: 17-inch widescreen LCD screen, 1.25GHz PowerPC G4 processor, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra graphics card, 64MB DDR video memory, 256MB DDR333 SDRAM, 80GB Ultra ATA hard drive, SuperDrive DVD-R/CD-RW, running the latest version of OS X (Panther).

Yum.
