General Update

Buncha random stuff:

  • Woke up today feeling like ass. Ache-y, not quite feverish, but about “half a bubble off plumb”, if you know what I mean. I blame , who has no doubt engaged in the time-honored tradition of married couples: “Here, honey, have my plague.”
  • Looking forward to Casino Royale on Friday — opening night at a Bond film has been a tradition of mine since 1985. Plus, I’ve been reading advanced reviews that are all saying the same thing: That this is going to piss off a lot of people, because the gadget-laden wise-cracking tongue-in-cheek Bond is nowhere to be seen. More than one reviewer has commented that this is the Bond of Fleming’s novels. That statement makes me giddy. As one reviewer pointed out, the Bond films had pretty much become a self-parody machine, and it’s about time that they were given some new blood. Going back to the character as written by Fleming is a damned good place to start, if you ask me.
  • The Minion brought home incredible news yesterday — her application has been accepted, and she’ll be studying abroad in Germany this coming Summer. Only 9 of the 18 applicants were chosen, so she’s floating on Cloud Nine right now. It’s been a good month for being proud parents — first the National Honor Society induction, then this.
  • Still having a hard time getting fiction written. It’s really pissing me off. I’ve got such a full schedule with Adamant stuff, the last thing that I have creative energy for is more writing, and yet I’m filled with ideas. Plenty of ideas. No time. ARGH.

V delivers Petitions To White House

(seen on ‘s journal)

A man (or men) dressed in a “V for Vendetta” mask visited security check points at the White House, the main Treasury, IRS and Justice Department Buildings and the Capitol, where he (or they) delivered a petition regarding the Government’s violations of the Constitution…. and to inform key Government officials that at least 100 more “Vs” would be at their doorstep on November 14th expecting a response to the Petition.

Story here.

I wonder how many will end up showing up tomorrow.

Bond Week, Baby!

Casino Royale, based on my all-time favorite Bond novel, opens this Friday!

There is no question that I’ll be there. The only question is where, and with whom.

I checked — it is playing at The Legends 14 — the theater by the Speedway, with the VIP adult balcony seating. Showtimes at 7, 10:15 and midnight. The only problem is, you can’t get advanced tickets — I tried Moviefone, and I even tried calling the theater. The automated phone system lists all of the other films as an option, but not Casino Royale. Moviefone tells you that there are no “available showtimes.”

AAARRRRGGHH! I’m hoping that doesn’t mean that it’s *already* sold out…..more likely that it’s just not eligible for advanced sales.

I do *not* want to get stuck at the fucking Southwind here in Lawrence for this one.

EDIT: The lovely and talented located this site, which has tickets for sale in the VIP balcony. — They’re $16 a pop, for the joy of cushy seats, 21 and older, plus alcohol and snack service at your seat. We’re planning on going to the 10:15 show — hitting legends about 7-something for dinner beforehand (Carino’s perhaps?). Comment below if you’re going to be joining us!
