Jim Carroll has died of a heart attack.

He’ll probably end up being best known for writing “The Basketball Diaries” (made into a film with Leonardo DiCaprio), but for me, he’ll always be singing this song — the first piece of art that I was ever told was forbidden (by the nuns at St. Joseph’s school):
