Musical Bliss: LOTR

My latest acquisition:

The Lord of the Rings: The Complete Recordings.

Every second of every bit of music recorded for the film trilogy. Over 9 hours of music.

It certainly helps when I’m working on 4E stuff for Adamant….

Anyway — *strongly* recommended. If you haven’t managed to pick up any of Howard Shore’s soundtracks from the films — get these. Hell, even if you had — like me — picked up all of the previous albums, this is still worth it, for the material from the extended editions.

Makes me miss 2001-2003, when the holiday season meant the release of a new LOTR movie, and all of the related stuff (books, games, music, etc.). I haven’t watched the films in a long, long time. Too long, in fact. I should get some folks together and address that.

Reminder: Election Night Party

Just a reminder for area folks–

and I are having a shindig at our place here in Lawrence on Tuesday, November 4th — Election night! An opportunity to sit a room with our fellow snarky Liberals, nosh on nibblies, maybe have a drink or six, and watch the writhing death-throes of the Republican Party.

After you vote, come on over around dinner-ish. The returns will be on all night long — MSNBC, so we can enjoy the running commentary of Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow — and we’ll cheer the wins, boo the losses and mock the conservative commentators.

Friday Music (Halloween Edition)

Yeah, I know — I almost never do holiday-themed entries. Sue me. I’ve got some fairly good finds this year:

First up, the best track from Rob Zombie’s most recent album — he opened his show with this one when I went to see him last year. Rob Zombie – “American Witch.”

A new horror-themed electro-industrial act, which I’ve only just discovered and like quite a bit. Plus, gotta love the song title. Zombie Girl – “Blood, Brains & Rock n’ Roll.”

Saw this performer at the Scream Awards on Spike TV last week — kind of a gothy-electro-pop chick from Estonia. It’s a brainworm: Kerli – “Walking On Air.”

Speaking of goth chicks — the original and still the best: Siouxsie & the Banshees – “Spellbound.”

The man behind the theme to Mad Men works his magic on a spookier vein: RJD2 – “The Horror.”

I was pointed towards this by , so blame him. Tragedy is a NYC-based tribute band that does all-metal covers of Bee-Gees tracks. Let that sink in a bit. Here’s the best, featuring the most intentionally-hilarious ‘occult-metal spoken word bridge’ EVER towards the end: Tragedy – “You Should Be Dancing.”

…and lastly, because this is the last entry before Election Day, and this is the scariest thing in the world to the conservatives out there: I give you the famous track from the viral video: will.i.am – “Yes We Can (Obama for America).”
