This is based on a French comic book, and boy oh boy does it ever feel like it. A mix of cyberpunk, new-wave SF and Egyptian myth. As I said after the film ended: I liked it, I think….it was visually stunning (a largely computer-animated film, with live-action actors mixed with CG characters, and live-action characters with CG heads (!)–amazing to look at), but the plot was…well, a bit “Buh?” The whole thing was SO very French.

Enki Bilal (the author and artist of the original graphic novel series) is one of my favourite artists and my ex sent me the movie from France as a Christmas pressie last year.
Enki is actually Yugoslavian but moved to France decades ago. On the whole I really enjoyed the film although some parts were visually stunning whilst some of the CGI characters did look like poor computer graphics which was a shame.
Overall though I can forgive them that as the general feel of the film is very pleasing :p
Chalk up another little bit of rage over region-coded DVDs.
