I just found out that on September 6th, Universal Studios Home Video are releasing the Hammer Horror Series DVD set, which collects 8 Hammer films that have not yet appeared on DVD, putting them on 2 discs for 30 bucks. No extras, but screw it. I am SO there.

The movies:

  • Brides of Dracula
  • The Curse of the Werewolf
  • The Phantom of the Opera
  • Paranoiac
  • Kiss of the Vampire
  • Nightmare
  • Night Creatures
  • The Evil of Frankenstein

I would’ve paid 30 bucks for Brides of Dracula by itself! (It’s my favorite of the Hammers, and the one that I have the clearest memories of being scared silly by when I watched it one Saturday afternoon as a young’un.) Adding Oliver Reed in Curse of the Werewolf and Peter Cushing in The Evil of Frankenstein only sweetens the deal, plus they’ve included a bunch of lesser-known Hammers, most of which I haven’t seen since Crematia Mortem went off the air.

In other words, as they say on Firefly: “I’ll be in my bunk.”
