Christians Finally Standing Up…..

This is pretty big, in my opinion, but it’s been relegated to a back-page report:

U.S. church alliance denounces Iraq war.

The statement came from the 34 U.S. Members of the The World Council of Churches, a group which includes mainstream Protestant, Anglican and Orthodox churches, including the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church (USA), the United Methodist Church, several Baptists denominations, and more. This isn’t some “looney leftie” fringe group.

Some of the strongest language:

“We lament with special anguish the war in Iraq, launched in deception and violating global norms of justice and human rights.”

and

“God has been enlisted in national agendas that are nothing short of idolatrous.”

I’m sure the evangelicals will have a field day with this, denouncing the statement and those who released it….but I’m just happy to see some Christians finally standing up to take back their Faith from these lunatics.

  1. It actually makes me sad to see that it took this long for the WCC to release this statement. I was affiliated with a United Church of Christ seminary when the war started and very few people there were in favor of the war.

But then, its the UCC and they’re all sorts of liberal Christian, really just theologically right of agnostic ;>
