Doctor Who – Fires of Pompeii

Now THAT is more like it!

A great episode — and excellent use made of the HBO/BBC Rome sets.

The Pyrovale were nifty (especially the magma-rock centurions), and the Sybilene sisterhood was very reminiscent of the Sisterhood of Karn from Brain of Morbius, which was a nice echo to the past.

This time around, a nice mix of intensity and whimsy, favoring the intensity. I hope they can keep up that particular feel.

Favorite bit: “SORRY. NO-SPEAKO THE CELTIC. NO CAN DO, MISSY.”

Plus: DOCTOR WITH A WATER PISTOL!

Also — two episodes, two references that planets have been “lost,” to the Doctor’s apparent confusion. Hello, story arc! I wonder what’s up….

Next week: “Planet of the Ood” — or, “We spent money on these prosthetics, so we’re damn well gonna use ’em.”
