30 Day Song Challenge, Day 30

The month is not quite over, but the challenge is. Thank you to everyone who has bothered to check in to my lonely little outpost on the internet, as I used this meme as a way to train myself to post something every day. I’ll be continuing — and if there’s any sort of content that you’d like to read from me, please feel free to leave a comment below.

So, for the last challenge: A song about your spiritual beliefs.

That’s a tough one. I was raised Irish Catholic. I gave that up by my teens. I found paganism, and it spoke to me — but only as a solitary. I found that when in group worship, things were brought down to the common denominator which made it seem, well, goofy to me. I had no sense of the mystic or divine in group efforts. Now? I’m not so sure. Agnostic?

But this is a pop song that has always spoken to me — and I once described it as feeling “Hymnal” to me. It gives me chills at times. The calling sound of the synth is part of it, but the lyrics drive it home:

“I’m standing here on the ground
The sky above won’t fall down
See no evil in all direction
Resolution of happiness
Things have been dark
For too long
Don’t change for you
Don’t change a thing for me”

It makes me feel hopeful — and really, that’s a prime goal of spirituality, for me.
