Happy 100th Birthday, Ian Fleming

Today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of my all-time favorite author, Ian Lancaster Fleming. The man’s novels were responsible for my hobby and my career (as my first RPG was Top Secret, given to me as a birthday present since I was such a Bond fan) — I still prefer the novels to the films, and I even named my son after him.

To mark the Centenary, the newest James Bond novel, Devil May Care, by Sebastian Faulks, is coming out today. I’ll be heading down to Borders this evening to pick one up.

Golden Age Goodness

I’m sure some of you have seen this already, but it’s nifty, so I’m posting it.

A prop photo from the forthcoming film version of The Watchmen, depicting the 1940 edition of the supergroup, The Minutemen:

There, on the cusp at the edge of Pulp, lies the Golden Age.

Additional Indy Thought

I have to say — one thing that INDY 4 did right was instill within me a fierce desire to know about his adventures between 1938 and 1957 — specifically, his work during WWII. There were certainly some tantalizing dialog bits that set my brain alight.
