Democracy in Action

So, I’ve taken to occasionally sending emails to my representatives in Congress.

This has been disheartening, to say the very least, because in each case, I’ve gotten a response (via regular mail), that has FUCK-ALL TO DO WITH WHAT I EMAILED ABOUT.

Email to Sam Brownback about the Downing Street Memo? Letter in response thanking me for “contacting him about the reconstruction of the newly liberated Iraq.”

Email to Pat Roberts about Gitmo? Letter in response about the Patriot Act.

Email to Dennis Moore (my sole Democratic representative) about the new credit-card-company-sponsored bankrupcy laws? Well, OK….he actually responded on-topic: to tell me why HE FUCKING SUPPORTED IT.

ARGH.

Ghost Rider’s Bike!

As a child raised on 70s comic books, let me say this:

I think I just wet myself.

Like something out of a comic book….

Lions Rescue Ethiopian Girl:

“A 12-year-old girl who was abducted and beaten by men trying to force her into a marriage was found being guarded by three lions who apparently had chased off her captors, a policeman said Tuesday.”

That’s kinda cool.

Also cool was BATMAN BEGINS, which and I just got back from seeing. I actually think this one was better than Burton’s two outings. Makes me want to read some Batman comics again…which makes it a nice coincidence that there’s a new series, All-Star Batman & Robin (which looks like DC is doing a Marvel-Ultimate-style side continuity), written by Frank Miller and drawn by Jim Lee, starting in July.
