You Say You Want A Resolution…
So, I didn’t get around to posting a New Year’s Resolution thingummy yesterday, as I thought I would. Went to go see Scorsese’s The Aviator instead (great film, by the way).
Today, I spotted a New Year’s meme on Theron’s journal that I like better than a resolution post, so I’ll shamelessly hork that.
1. What did you do in 2004 that you’d never done before?
Performed as a member of the Royal Court at KCRF.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn’t keep last year’s, or the year before that….so I’ll just carry it over, as usual. (The resolution: to complete and sell a novel)
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My ex-wife. (I guess that counts as “close”)
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no.
5. What countries did you visit?
England, circa 1594. :)
6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
Duh. More money.
7. What dates from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Columbus Day. Those that were there know why.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
A tie between performing at KCRF and finally getting Adamant Entertainment rolling and making money.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not getting the money coming in sooner.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yes to both.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My iMac, back in February.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Laura’s– for putting up with my mood swings, and supporting me.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
51% of the American people.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Living expenses. Rent, bills, etc.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Performing at KCRF and meeting many new friends as a result.
16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
“Canaan’s Land” (*shudder*)
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier
b) thinner or fatter? Thinner
c) richer or poorer? Richer
Wow…a trifecta!
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Writing. Had I gotten on the ball and made the switch to PDF sooner, the leap in income would’ve come sooner.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Getting upset about stupid inconsequential bullshit.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
With Laura’s family (see the post for details)
21. Did you fall in love in 2004?
Nope. I think I’m done.
22. How many one-night stands?
Dozens, but all with the same woman.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
Early part of the year: Deadwood.
Latter part of the year: Lost
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I certainly dislike some people that I didn’t even know at this time last year, but no–my hate is reserved for people that I know very well.

Iron Council by China Mieville.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Discovering hundreds of obscure New Wave artists that I missed the first time around (mostly via New Wave Outpost).
27. What did you want and get?
I wanted (and needed) a new computer. In February, I got one of these:
28. What did you want and not get?
An iPod. I had planned to grab one when I bought the iMac, but financial responsibility (in the form of Laura) won out.
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
I just did a post on this very subject. Go read it.
30. What did you do on your birthday?
Pretty much nothing, if I remember correctly.

Again, Duh– More money.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Excuse me while I laugh at your use of the phrase “personal fashion concept.”
However, since it’s on this list, and I volunteered to answer: I guess I’d describe it as Bohemian Writer.

The election.
36. Who did you miss?
My extended family in the Northeast.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
I’m going to cheat here and say every single one of the friends that I made at KCRF this year. I’m not going to type in all of the lj-user tags–you know who you are.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
I should have been quicker to discard my prejudice against PDF products as “not really publishing”–had I made the switch to concentrate on them sooner, I’d be in a much better financial situation now.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up the year:
Well maybe I’m the faggot America.
I’m not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.
Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien-nation.
Everything isn’t meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow.
Well that’s enough to argue.
Don’t want to be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It’s going out to idiot America.
–Green Day, “American Idiot”
