Nabbed from
High School Meme-thingy
Nabbed from Theron, among others:
What year was it?
What year was what? I’m presuming that they mean ‘high school’, but I, like many others, went for several years. So, I’ll pick one of ’em: 1985
What were your three favorite bands or musical artists?
Duran Duran, U2, The (English) Beat.
What was your favorite outfit?
Faded jeans (naturally faded–I never bought ’em that way) with ripped knees, a white dress shirt that I had fabric-penned red question marks on the lapels (hello Doctor Who), and a vintage tux jacket (with tails) that I bought at a thrift store in Westport (worn with the sleeves pushed up, of course).
What was up with your hair?
Short and spikey, with colored mousse (usually blue).
Who were your best friends?
David (still is, 20 years later). Also: Mike and Rob.
Where did you work?
I worked for a home builder—taking care of the lawns of the unsold houses in my brand-spanking-new Johnson County neighborhood.
Did you take the bus?
Rode in friend’s cars.
Who did you have a crush on?
Too many to list. I was 16, and male. Do the math.
Did you fight with your parents?
See above answer.
Did you smoke cigarettes?
Yes.
Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack because you were too nervous to find your locker?
Nope.
Did you have a ‘clique’?
The smart outsiders. Lots of overlapping ‘mini-cliques’–the SF club, Drama, Literary Magazine, etc.
Did you have “The Max” like Zach Kelly and Slater?
I must be really friggin’ old. I have ZERO idea what this references.
Admit it, were you popular?
My usual response was “in my social circle, yes.” Which, of course, means No, by the standards of the future frat-boy and sorority-girl central that was Shawnee Mission Northwest.
Who did you want to be just like?
Buckaroo Banzai.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Writer. (looks around) So I guess that worked out, then.
Where did you think you’d be at the age you are now?
Honestly, I never thought about being 35. I was totally hung up on the fact that I’d be 30 in the year 2000.
Back to work.
