Coup

I’d like to laugh.

I really would….but this is deadly serious, and it truly disgusts me.

Of course, depending upon whose polls you listen to, either half the country disapproves of the NSA tracking their calls, or half the country approves.

Big surprise — Republicans (you know, the “party for small, non-intrustive government”) overwhelmingly favor it — The whole “If you’re not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to hide” bullshit.

Except– surprise, surprise: it appears this whole thing may be more about going after journalists who are reporting the administration’s crimes than it is about protecting us from Terrorists.

How much more of this shit needs to happen before the Republicans in this country stop drinking the Kool-Aid?

The people that you so-called moderates/single-issue tax voters/libertarians/”Teddy Roosevelt Republicans” put in power are dismantling this Republic, stone by stone.

Torture.
Incarceration without Charges.
Surveillance of American Citizens, on American soil, without warrants.
The right to circumvent existing laws simply by Executive Order.
Criminilization of journalism.
Suspension of any investigation or oversight by the Justice Department or Congress.

The list goes on.

When do you stop the knee-jerk acceptance of everything they do, using “because they’re not Democrats” as your standard of measure? When do you wake up and smell the dictatorship?

  1. I wish I was stunned. After the last couple of elections, though, it’s become painfully obvious that this country has been split (most likely permanently) into two roughly equal halves — one of which will be reasonable, and one of which will not.

  2. Remember, this is the same president that believes whole heartedly that everyone in the US wanted him as president because 51% (over-whelming majority if I remember the term correctly) of the people voted for him.

  3. Fuck that — this is a president who believes that those 51% of the people are merely a validiction of the fact that GOD CHOSE HIM TO LEAD.

  4. Poll numbers I saw on the wiretapping issue said 63% in favor – that was the part that stunned me. That means that around 12% of otherwise sane and reasonable people don’t seem to mind taking it up the ass in the name of “safety”. Blech.

  5. It’s called Dominionism, and it is why I joined the “Dark Christian” community here on LJ. One of the senators from KS is a member of a cult within Roman Catholicism that supports Dominionism. The cult itself is scary enough, but in concert with their Dominionist allies, they’re enough to give an honest civil libertarian regular nightmares.

  6. Our party got hijacked

The federal Republicans got taken over by big money, big religion forces, rallied behind taxpayer revolt and other big-flash issues They pulled a fast one on the core of the party and are strangling it with a Rosary.

And at the State level, the parties are trying to get out from under the jackboot. But where to go?

This is why I vote issues, but lots of people still haven’t been hurt enough to jump ship in some capacity. I hope people would see that giving up liberty for security is actually giving up both.

  7. Poll wording also affects how the results come out.

    But it shows several things

    1) stupid should be painful.

    2) sadly, stupid seems to have a blast radius and we are getting caught in it.
