Moffat Taking Over

I’d heard about this a while ago from some insider sources, but it’s now been confirmed:

Steven Moffat will be taking over as executive producer and lead writer for DOCTOR WHO.

Just think — starting in 2010, entire seasons where the majority of episodes (and the season’s story-arc) are written by the guy who did The Empty Child, The Girl in the Fireplace and Blink. No more Doctor-as-Messiah with sparkly Deus Ex Machina, and more wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey….stuff.

Hoorah!

Update:The official BBC press release, with the following Moffat quote:

“My entire career has been a Secret Plan to get this job. I applied before but I got knocked back ‘cos the BBC wanted someone else. Also I was seven. Anyway, I’m glad the BBC has finally seen the light, and it’s a huge honour to be following Russell into the best – and the toughest – job in television. I say toughest ‘cos Russell’s at my window right now, pointing and laughing.”
