The Tinderbox

Breaking: The militia has started firing at the protesters in Tehran.

This is the tipping point. Will the hundreds of thousands of protesters break, or does it become a full-fledged revolution?

EDIT: The Huffington Post has set up a page with a constantly-updating Twitter feed (#iranelection). That’s what I’m watching. Fuck CNN.

EDIT 2: Or, bypass HuffPo and go direct: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23iranelection

Still stunned by the mainstream media on this: Imagine — what if nobody had covered Tienanmen Square?

The Iranian Coup

If you, like me, are absolutely gobsmacked by the comparative lack of coverage by the US Mass Media of what is currently happening in Iran, I strongly recommend that you ready Andrew Sullivan’s blog.

Sullivan has been aggregating news from Iranian bloggers, the scraps of information coming from media outlets, the leaks coming from within Iran via Twitter, and more. Absolutely stunning things going on — which we’re largely not hearing about.

Go check it out. Go back to Friday the 12th, and read from there.

The photo above hit me especially hard — two young men, about the same age. One wearing the green of the Moussavi supporters, who are rioting over the stolen election. One wearing the black riot gear of the special police sent out to quell the uprising. The dissident is sheltering the riot policeman. Both men are victims of the coup.

40 and Footie

Yup — “officially OLD” as Dotta Numba 2 says.

Day was spent in picking up The Minion from the airport (she’s back from college for the summer), and then dinner and a footie match with the wife and both daughters. (Kansas City 3, New England 1 — and all three KC goals were scored on our end of the pitch.)

The rest of the weekend will most likely involve a viewing of the full uncut version of John Woo’s Red Cliff tomorrow (possibly) — or at the very least something equally recreational.

Thanks for the kind wishes, folks.
