So, last night I get hit with another bout of insomnia, which I get from time to time. Just laying there, unable to stop the sensation that my brain is racing, as the hours tick by with no end in sight.
However, this time around, I decided to put the brain to work, and started “daydreaming” (so to speak) about plans for the stage show that I want to put together for next year’s season of KCRF (given that I’ve come to the inescapable conclusion that I’m not cut out for the physical rigors and cliquey politics of Court, and the fact that stage acts make more money just seals the deal….). It’s a swordplay/comedy show, based on the characters being a group of Elizabethan “bully-boy” mercenaries, looking for work.
Aside from gags that I’m sure will develop out of ad-libs and during fight rehersals, I pretty much wrote the whole thing in my head from about 1 a.m. to about 5 a.m., when I finally dropped off to sleep. Now, all that remains is to physically write it down today, before I forget the best bits.
I’ll share one of my favorite bits here:
The Captain (the MC of the show): “Are these good people here to see you behave like a bunch of jackanapes?”
The lads: “SIR, NO SIR!”
The Captain: “What ARE they here to see?”
Javier: (at the top of his lungs) “A MILITARY UNIT ON CRACK!”
The Captain: “That’s *CRACK MILITARY UNIT*, you Spanish cur! Didn’t I tell you to work on your English?”
Javier: “Si.”
The Captain: (full-on Drill Sgt. Bellowing) “Sea? SEA?? ARE YOU IN THE NAVY, BOY? DROP AND GIVE ME TWENTY!”
Yeah…it’s pretty obvious that I was lacking sleep. But I still giggle when I’m reading it, so I think it’s goofy enough.
Is this the same show that Mike and Jason have mentioned?
It is indeed. The working title is as follows:
Men of the Free Companies
A Much Admir’d Comedy
Featuring
Swordplay, Amusements,
And
The Slight’st Possibility of Grievous Life-threatening Injury
To One or More Performers.
Sounds like a great show! If you are gonna have open auditions lemme know.
