The Government Printing Office sells a set of flash cards to help prospective US citizens learn about our government. The cards are also available on the website.
Question 80 (linked above), asks “Name one right or freedom guaranteed by the First Amendment.”
Yeah. Read that: “The rights of freedom of speech, of religion, of assembly and to petition the Government.”
Notice anything missing?
Freedom of the Press.
Of course, in an era when the administration is spying on journalists, and is considering criminal prosecution of reporters under espionage laws, do you really feel comfortable in writing this off as a simple mistake of omission?
It certainly is an interesting ommision, considering the text of Constitution reads:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
D.
Interesting. And not a little worrisome.
But then what do I have to worry about? I’m just a baby machine. Oh, wait, no. I can’t have kids. My god!!! I’m useless! Just shoot me now!
Ditto….
this is certainly picking up speed…
immigration to tapping of phones of the press to omitting in naturalization
which brings it back to immigration again.
