National Novel Writing Month(NaNoWriMo to the cool kids) is coming round again, as of November 1. The goal, as in previous years, is to write a 50,000 word “novel” (although that’s admittedly a bit thin for a novel) in 30 days.

Last year, I didn’t succeed….although I did get a good start on a novel that I’ve been working off-and-on ever since.

This year, I’ll end up writing much more than 50K in the month of November, but that’ll be for the paying jobs–I’ve got a couple of deadlines in November. So, while I don’t think I’ll be getting a novel finished, I’ll be participating in NaNoWriMo anyway–using it as a convenient excuse to continue work on the novel, and maybe get another one started (perhaps with a partner– something I’ve wanted to try for a while).

I’m sitting here at my desk, smirking at the realization that I just had: that being a full-time writer often means not having the time to write everything that you want to write.

There are worse problems to have, I’m sure.
