Damen und Herren, der ÜberPapst

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger has been elected as Pope Benedict XVI.

Let’s see:

  • Ratzinger was head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith …. which was originally formed as the Sacred Congregation of the Universal Inquisition.
  • Ratzinger is a Bavarian
  • Ratzinger was a member of the Hitler Youth, and served in the army of the Third Reich, manning an anti-aircraft unit that protected a BMW factory making aircraft engines, staffed by slaves from Dachau concentration camp.

So, basically, we’ve got a Grand Inquisitor, who was raised and served in the Third Reich, who hails from the supposed home of the Illuminati, as Pope.

That sound you’re hearing is Dan Brown in the beginning throes of a year-long orgasm. :)

  1. I curse every month that I didn’t write the piece of crap that is the da vinci code, because it’s the most badly written, piece of plagiaristic crap to ever grace a bestseller list.

  2. Well, let’s talk about a balanced point of view:
He joined the Hitler Youth aged 14, shortly after membership was made compulsory in 1941.

And then: He deserted the Germany army in 1945 and returned to Traunstein, where he was taken prisoner by U.S. troops.
In June 1945, he was released from a U.S. POW camp and returned home, hitching a ride on a milk truck.

And while in the past, yes, it was formerly the Governing Body of the Inquisition: it’s Role as defined in 1968: The congregation, says the “Activity of the Holy See,” in conformity with its raison d’etre, promotes in a collegial fashion encounters and initiatives to «spread sound doctrine and defend those points of Christian tradition which seem in danger because of new and unacceptable doctrines.»

All of this with the understanding that I am not a Catholic, and am not a fan of the Catholicism, I would much rather have seen a more liberal Cardinal Elected, I prefer that people are educated about these things, then firing off Inflammatory Blog Postings.

Not, that the whole point of your post was to get to the punch line (I assume), which is a gold mine of pure awesomeness.

Well, I’m sure we’re all glad that you’re here to police that tendency.

    Or something.

  4. Ack, that did come across as a little to effen’ smarmy didn’t it? Eek. I just have respected your opinions and blog postings, and it seemed that this one was too one sided (even for my tastes).

    Apologetics.

  5. Yeah, as I was listening to the revelation of who was elected (I was watching Sin City in the theaters during the actual announcement, har har), I said to myself, “I got a baaaaad feeling about this.”

Not to mention his very, very conservative views just on women and homosexuality. I know of at least one woman who has renounced the Catholic faith because of Ratzinger’s election.
