James Bond: Whether we’re talking about the Fleming novels’ nearly burned-out blunt instrument of Her Majesty’s Government, or the suave super-spy of the films, he’s infinitely cool.
Justice, Inc: One of the best pulp-genre RPGs ever written, which inspired my love of the genre as an adolescent.
Jedi: They were much cooler before the prequels. An iconic mix of Round Table knight and Shaolin monk, in Space.
Johnny Clegg: White South African musician, who defied Apartheid by living with, hanging out with, and making music with the Zulus. The cultural embargo against South Africa stifled his chances at being as huge an artist on the worldwide stage as he should have been. Some of the best music I own.
Jet Li: Kung Fu prodigy and martial arts film star — once declared a “National Treasure” of the People’s Republic of China. I thought about listing Jackie Chan, but I realized that I’m not as big a fan of kung fu comedy as I am of Jet Li’s more serious work, especially his period wuxia films.
James T. Kirk: My childhood hero. Not Shatner.
Joss Whedon: Do I even need to explain this? Firefly, Buffy, Angel….
Jonny Quest: The cool original 1960s version, not the later abominations. Nifty-as-hell cartoon — Pulp for Kids.
Jack Of All Trades: I have been described this way, and there is a fair amount of truth to it.
Jeebus: He’s a baby, and you can make him cry when you don’t do good stuff.
If you’d like to play, leave a comment. I’ll give you a letter. Then you post ten words beginning with that letter in your journal and explain why they’re important enough to make the cut.
