Keep Your Eyes Open

While the media focuses on the supposed “race-card” battle between the candidates (the latest, sexy narrative….and, despite the fact that it’s been entirely Clinton supporters involved — rather than her campaign — and Obama only responding, it’s portrayed in the media as somehow both candidates fault for “dirty politics.”)….keep your eye on the things that are actually happening.

Remember when Clinton complained that the caucus process in Iowa disenfranchised voters who “worked at night”, etc.?

Well, isn’t it funny that the Nevada State Teachers Union (who have endorsed Clinton) has filed a lawsuit to block the Nevada law that creates “at-large” precincts inside nine Las Vegas resorts on caucus day — created primarily so that casino and resort employees have a place to have their vote counted.

Entirely coincidental, I’m sure, that the lawsuit was filed two days after the 60,000-member Culinary Workers Union, whose members work (and would caucus) at those sites, endorsed Obama.

I guess the caucus process is only unfair if it means that you lose. Then it’s OK to disenfranchise voters.

Cool Mac News

Steve Jobs just gave his MacWorld address, and announced the following:

1) MacBook Air: the thinnest notebook ever — .76 of an inch at its widest point. 80-gig hard drive, 13 inch screen, built in Wi-Fi and bluetooth. No optical drive, though — you can get one as an accessory.

2) iTunes Movie Rentals — all major film studios on board. 3 bucks gives you 30 days to watch (but only 24 hours to finish once you’ve started watching, apparently), and then the file self-deletes. Watchable on PCs, Macs, iPods, iPhones and AppleTV.

3)Time Capsule — a back-up appliance, combining a wireless base station with a hard drive (up to 1 TB) – all Macs on your home network can be set to automatically back up to the Capsule wirelessly at whatever schedule you set. This is the one that I’m most jazzed about.

Nifty.

4th Edition Decision

Well, my decision was just made a lot easier.

Last week, I asked WOTC about their requirement of being provided with a business license for all prospective 4th Ed. publishers.

Some background: Adamant Entertainment is a sole proprietorship in the state of Kansas. Kansas does not require registration of DBAs (Doing Business As), and only requires registration if you’re hiring employees — which, since I use freelance contractors, I do not. So, no “business license.”

I was informed today:

“The current wording in the new license firmly states that we absolutely require a business license.”

So, if you’re from a jurisdiction that doesn’t require them (which includes several countries, if I’m not mistaken), looks like you’re out of luck, unless you want to jump through an entirely unnecessary hoop, and register somewhere, just for the purpose of having a slip of paper to show WOTC.

Another staggeringly brilliant decision from WOTC Legal.

I’ve been told that if it changes, they’ll “let me know.”
