Obama Responds

This is more like it.

Earlier this week, at a fundraiser in San Francisco, Obama had the temerity to say:

“People don’t vote on economic issues because they don’t expect anybody is going to help them,” […]”So people end up voting on issues like guns and are they going to have the right to bear arms. They vote on issues like gay marriage. They take refuge in their faith and their community, and their family, and the things they can count on. But they don’t believe they can count on Washington.”

[…] “You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years. … And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

…and of course, McCain, Clinton and the media have jumped all over this. Obama is “condescending.” Obama is “elitist.” Obama is “out of touch.” This, according to the rabid, barking media, is the smoking gun moment that brings down his campaign.

With the old style of politician — maybe that’s true. John Kerry would’ve spend the next week letting everyone chatter about it, before then going out and spending the week after that giving stumbling apologies for his “gaffe.”

Obama? Brings it up immediately — stands by what he said, and goes after his critics:

YES WE CAN.
