Caught the latest episode of HBO’s Rome tonight, and absolutely loved this line, as delivered in a Roman brothel:
“She’d better fuck like Helen of Troy with her ass on fire, or I’ll know the reason why!”
Gives one a new respect for the classics, that does.

Nice line. How is the show in general? We were curious about it but never got around to checking it out.
I love it. It’s very much a “warts and all” view of Rome (as you can tell from the quote)…and the main fictional conceit is the presence of two soldiers, Lucius Verenus and Titus Pullo, who are wandering through the historical events in the narrative sort of like a Roman version of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
It’s a freaking terrific line.
Lucius V. and Titus P. were real, if I recall. Their dynamic might be fictional and most likely they’re wanderings but I do remember those names mentioned as two Roman soldiers.
