The BBC’s in-house newsletter apparently has revealed that a second spin-off of Doctor Who is being launched. The first, Torchwood, starts this Fall, and is aimed at adults. The new series will be aimed at kids, and is being done by CBBC (the children’s channel):
“CBBC is developing a spin-off series from Doctor Who based on the adventures of investigative journalist Sarah Jane, played by Elizabeth Sladen, and to be written by Russell T Davies.”
Outpost Gallifrey (my source for Doctor Who news — VERY reliable) has heard from a variety of sources that the working title of the show is Sarah Jane Investigates.
That title is so much better than K-9 and Company!
Are you sure this isn’t people getting mixed up over the (CGI I believe) K9 series for children that was mooted?
I doubt it, since it’s coming from the BBC’s own internal publication.

Re: I’m referring to this…
Yeah, I know — that’s actually not going to be a BBC production, though.
From Outpost Gallifrey:
“More on K9 Series
July 18, 2006
At an appearance this past weekend, K9 creator Bob Baker revealed that the new planned K9 spinoff series would not be animated, but in fact would feature a blend of live-action and CGI: K9 himself would be a CGI creation, but the show would otherwise be recorded in front of cameras. Baker noted that the idea of the series being animated was merely a press rumor but was never intended. Baker stated that scripts had been written (or were being written) for 26 thirty-minute episodes, and a test reel had been completed with footage specially filmed to show the look of the new series. The series is being planned to air in early 2008 and is an independent production with no further ties to the BBC or the Doctor Who property. “
Re: I’m referring to this…
Sort of like the two competing Bond franchises I guess :)
