Clooney Nails It.

George Clooney, in his acceptance speech upon receiving Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Syriana,” referred to the latest conservative talking point — that the films being honored at the Oscars were just another example of how Hollywood was out of touch with ‘Mainstream America.’ He said:

“We are a little bit out of touch in Hollywood every once in a while.

We were the ones who talked about AIDS when it was being whispered. We talked about Civil Rights when it wasn’t really popular. This Academy gave Hattie McDaniel an Oscar in 1939, when Black people were forced to sit in the back. I’m proud to be part of this Academy. I’m proud to be part of this community.

I’m proud to be out of touch.”

Preach, brother.

One of the things that kills me is that conservatives will bitch about “Hollyweird” and how it’s pushing a “liberal agenda”, etc……..but yet those same conservatives still line up and go see the latest brain-dead action-packed blockbuster crap that Hollywood produces….even though it’s produced by those damned liberals.

They criticize and rant and froth at the mouth…..but they still participate and consume.

Yet another example of conservative hypocrisy.

  1. Hollywood’s liberality is mostly in its talent; studio folks can be harder to talk into doing something new than Herbert Hoover because mass media is by definition conservative, or at least of the status quo. Movies with conservative messages aren’t necessarily easy to get made, but then movies in general aren’t easy to get made. You mentioned shopping screenplays aroud a while back, I would imagine you are familiar with it.
