Anniversaries

Seeing a few posts on my Friends list about anniversaries and such reminded me that I shouldn’t let this one pass unremarked.

It’s kinda difficult to keep things straight — what anniversary to do you commemorate? When you met? When you officially became a “couple?” When you got married?

In the case of and myself, I’ve known her for 16 years or so. We got married last October. But we officially entered “coupledom” the week of my birthday, in 1997. Ten years ago.

Ten years is one of those round numbers that our brains mark as a milestone, for whatever reason. Even odder when you think about the fact that in October of this year, we’ll celebrate our FIRST anniversary (despite being together for more than a decade).

Ten years. More up than down, thank the gods.

I love you, Laura.

  1. Congrats!

    That is most awesome :)

I am sorry we did not make it for the festivities, I was flat on my back all weekend and am still working on back issues.

Hope it was fantastic and would love to gtg with you soon to hang.

  2. Totally know the feeling: October will be our fifth wedding anniversary (time flies!) but November will be, iirc, the thirteenth anniversary of our first date. Amazing.

    Happy Anniversary, you two!

  3. Congradulations! I understand the anniversary confusion. Thomas and I met at a Funky Formal over 16 years ago, but we’ll have been married 9 years in August. We just sort of recognize both.

  4. I THINK…

    THE OFFICIAL FORMAT IS…

    WHEN YOU’RE DATING…ITS WHEN YOU STARTED DATING…

    WHEN YOU’RE MARRIED…ITS THE WEDDING DAY…

  5. *happy sniffle*

I knew it, you’re reading my mind again. I was just thinking about this.

I love you, too. That really doesn’t go without saying. A lot.

  6. That is so sweet!

Happy anniversary! I think it is great to celebrate both dates – because love is something that should be celebrated! :)
