The concert last night was excellent. Probably the tightest band I’ve ever seen live.
During the show, I think I figured out the recent soul revival — the kids who were born in the 80s, for whom there’s always been hip-hop, are now finally discovering the original source material for the samples they know. This was especially evident during the between-acts DJ set — whenever he played a soul tune that had a recognizable sample (“Think (About It)” by Lynn Collins, for example – “It takes two to make a thing go right….”), the crowd reacted.
For me, it was a bit like watching a “Guitar Hero” fan realize that “You Really Got Me” was not “made famous by Van Halen.”

While that may be true, the version included in Guitar Hero is the VH version not the Kinks version. Matt from Dork Tower, I’m talking to you too!
Get offa my lawn, ya damn punk kid!
