Fan Film on Prelim Nebula Ballot

How cool is this?

The script for the fan-created Star Trek New Voyages film series has been placed on the preliminary ballot for the Nebula Awards.

The episode, “World Enough and Time,” featured George Takei reprising his role as Sulu, and I liked it quite a bit.

It’s also up against Steven Moffat’s “Blink” from the last series of Doctor Who, which is my personal choice for the win, but still — an episode of a fan-created series up for a Nebula. That’s fantastic!

  1. I was very pleasantly surprised by “World Enough and Time”. The very first “New Voyages” episode was pretty bad, and the second was horrifying, but the third one was pretty decent and this latest effort felt like a lot like an episode of the Original Series. And George Takei was marvelous.

Their next episode is written and directed by David Gerrold, adapted from a TNG script that Paramount rejected because they didn’t want to do an episode with an openly gay character. Gerrold later adapted it into a pretty good “Star Wolf” novel, but now he gets to go back to his first love. I have high hopes.
