Sharon Jones

The concert last night was excellent. Probably the tightest band I’ve ever seen live.

has an excellent review over on her journal.

During the show, I think I figured out the recent soul revival — the kids who were born in the 80s, for whom there’s always been hip-hop, are now finally discovering the original source material for the samples they know. This was especially evident during the between-acts DJ set — whenever he played a soul tune that had a recognizable sample (“Think (About It)” by Lynn Collins, for example – “It takes two to make a thing go right….”), the crowd reacted.

For me, it was a bit like watching a “Guitar Hero” fan realize that “You Really Got Me” was not “made famous by Van Halen.”

Edwards Disappoints Me

So, Edwards is dropping out.

I figured he’d stick around and play king-maker (or queen-maker) at the convention, but I suppose that doing that isn’t worth months of humiliating defeats and time spent away from family.

A lot of pundits are saying his supporters are more likely to support Obama. I wish I could be that sure.

All I know is that I wish he’d come right out and endorse Obama, but he’s apparently not endorsing anyone yet. That disappoints me. An endorsement before Super Tuesday would go a long way to driving a stake through the heart of the Clinton Restoration.

But then again, I’m disappointed that Gore hasn’t endorsed Obama, either.

I can still hope, I guess.
