You Can’t Make This Shit Up

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist says that he’s more concerned about the leak of the information than he is about the fact that we’re operating illegal secret prisons in former Soviet-run gulags.

From the AP story:

He believes the leak itself poses a greater threat to national security and is “not concerned about what goes on” behind the prison walls.

Holy shit.

For those with short memories: Frist is one of the guys that claim that revealing the identity of an active CIA officer isn’t really a big deal. But the minute the Washington Post publishes a story about how we may be violating not only the Geneva Convention, but our own fucking laws….they demand that there be an investigation into who leaked the info.

This is America?

  1. Sadly, I have always suspected America of doing whatever it wants behind closed doors. The fact that we now have people in power who are stupid enough to say it out loud is even more sickening.

We’re supposed to be the good guys. WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!

  2. There was a time when this outrageous attitude would have been seen by everyone as the treasonous cancer that it is. Why are we not in the streets protesting?

  3. Sadly, for the same reason that we, as a country, let these bastards get elected last time: apathy.

“The penalty good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men”
    -Plato

  4. Because people who go into the streets and protest are thrown into crude prisons with toxic waste on the floor…at least, that’s what happened here in NY during the RNC…People are worried that they will be hurt if they say anything.

  5. Because, honestly– in a world where election results don’t matter, it’s hard to think that protest will have any effect.

I mean, seriously: The GAO released a 107-page report three weeks ago (link to PDF), stating that the electronic voting machines which are proliferating in counties and states across America are not secure, not accountable, not recountable, not transparent, not accurate and not adequately monitored or certified by anybody.

The report hasn’t been covered by any wire service (not AP, not UPI, not Reuters, not AFP etc.) nor a single mainstream American print newspaper (not NYTimes, not Washington Post, not any of them).

    Not one.

  6. Oh, yeah, our supposedly left-slanted liberal press didn’t print word one.

I’d say something from here, but I’ve already got a headache …

  7. The thing I hate the most about the current administration is that they regularly make me feel like a tinfoil hat wearing loony for pointing out objective truths about them.

  8. Damn right. I used to think people who said the kind of stuff I routinely say now were crazy. Part of that was just because I didn’t know any better…but not all of it.

  9. You know what, though? A lot of people are of the attitude that worrying about anything besides killing the shit out of your enemies and anyone who might be an enemy just to be sure is some kind of suicidal insanity that will doom us all. So a lot of people are probably going to read that and say, "He’s just an honest guy who’s not afraid to tell it like it is!" That’s the scary part. People will justify anything if they’ve been persuaded that the alternative is certain death, and a lot of people seem awfully easily persuaded these days. What will they justify next…???
