  1. I don’t think that signing statements, which presidents have done for years, are in and of themselves the problem. The problem lies in how Bush is using signing statements to widen his power within the government structure.

  2. The article says that Bush has had over 800 signing statements, compared to a total of 600 for all other presidents combined. I think they’re more concerned with the abuse of power than the power itself.

  3. I agree, it is the proportion that you mention that seems to be driving the objections.

    What do they say about ‘returning to the scene of the crime’?
    or is this more of a very repeated M.O.?
